Helping the Homeless

Greater Communities aims to aid the homeless crisis in Albuquerque, NM, with a unique approach: Make it about face-to-face connection.

It's easy for us who aren't homeless to take our good fortune for granted, and then push the responsibility of helping onto others.

We’re committed to getting to know people on the street and making them feel heard and valued. Joseph, the man pictured here, told us: “You guys are different – most people just give us food, they don’t talk to us.”

We must recognize the homeless person as part of the human family. A person notices the different ways we are looking at them.

Homelessness is hard to solve because everyone has a different story. Some had heartbreak, some had been laid off, some had no idea they had schizophrenia, and most seemed to have no one who believed in them.

Greater Communities partners with The Shuttle of Hope to help combat the homeless crisis in an approach of radical love and acceptance.
